Company Profile
The Building Performance Group was founded on the principles of honesty and integrity, and providing independent, unbiased diagnostics and consulting services to businesses and individuals who seek to better understand how their homes or buildings function and what Building Performance and Green Building really mean.
With over 30 years in combined professional experience in the construction, building restoration, insulation and weatherization industries, we have the knowledge and the network of resources to diagnose problems and educate and advise our clients on a wide-array of building-science related topics and issues.

In the United States, buildings use one third of all energy consumed and two thirds of all electricity. Additionally, they are a major source of the pollution that causes urban air quality problems and pollutants that contribute to climate change. Buildings account for 49 percent of sulfur dioxide emissions, 25 percent of nitrous oxide emissions, and 10 percent of particulate emissions.
It is our goal to help reduce this energy consumption and excessive pollution by locating the areas in buildings that create these problems through diagnostic testing and analysis.
It is also our goal to help homeowners, builders, architects, and others understand how to effectively construct new buildings and remodel older ones that are energy-efficient, healthy, durable, with as minimal impact on the environment as possible.
How We Help You...
We are building-science professionals who use infrared thermography and other high-tech equipment to diagnose and locate problems in buildings which cause execessive energy consumption, allow moisture intrusion, reduce indoor air quality and structural durability, and increase annual utility and maintenance costs.
We have extensive training and in-field experience in residential and commercial new construction and remodeling, site planning, development, and sustainable building practices.
This allows us to take a holistic approach at diagnosing problems in homes, office buildings, warehouses, and other existing structures, as well as consulting with clients on building new Energy Star Homes, NAHB Green Buildings and LEED certified commercial structures and residential buildings.
This website has been developed so that anyone can easily understand what Green Building and Building Performance are all about, no matter what their educational or professional background may be.
It is our goal at BPG to make this learning process as simple as possible. Throughout these pages you will see many links to outside pages and resources that will provide more unbiased, detailed information on the terminology we use and the topics discussed.
Feel free to contact us at any time with comments on how we can improve our site or with any questions you may have.

Owner's Background & Experience
|
|
Eric George, President and owner of the Building Performance Group, has over 15 years of experience in the new construction and building restoration fields, with 10 years of those 15 in the insulation and weatherization industries.
Eric's parents, Cindy and Craig George, opened a Paul Davis Restoration franchise when he was 13 years old and included him in all aspects of the fire and water damage restoration business from day one.
Throughout the time the Georges owned PDR, Eric worked in all facets of the restoration business, earning two certifications from the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certifications) in Fire & Water Damage Restoration. The IICRC mandates a very thorough understanding of building science principles surrounding moisture movement in buildings and how to dry structures properly and effectively. Eric now applies this education every day when explaining building degradation and the causes for it during inspections.
When Eric was 18, his parents purchased a local insulation company that specialized in insulating and air-sealing custom homes with cellulose and foam. Working in the company off and on through college, Eric and a good friend from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business decided to take over the company after graduating and expand the scope of the company's services into building weatherization.
Running the insulation and weatherization company, Eric learned the other half of the building science equation on how to properly insulate and air-seal buildings with the correct materials and techniques to prevent building failure.
The company, ISI Energy Savers eventually began working for the Department of Energy's (DOE) low-income weatherization programs in Indiana.
The DOE requires that anyone performing work for any State program be extensively trained and certified independently through the Building Performance Institute on all aspects of building science, including ductwork systems, applying pressure differentials, whole-house heatload calculations, residential energy auditing, understanding 80% and 90% furnaces, mold awareness, mobile home weatherization, and DSTO (daily safety test-out) procedures for worst-case gas appliance drafting. The organization that trained Mr. George was INCAA in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Over that period of time Eric's company weatherized over 250 homes through the DOE program. This required working side by side with the State's energy auditors to determine plans of action and determine causes for problems in homes.
In addition to the DOE work, Eric also oversaw the weatherization of hundreds of homes in the general public, along with insulating and air-sealing over 150 custom homes.
In early 2008 Eric earned the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) certification through Energy Efficient Homes Midwest and RESNET, and the Infrared Thermographer certification through Snell Infrared, and decided to start a new company focused entirely on building diagnostics and energy ratings.
This venture was the creation of The Building Performance Group as it is today.
